The Simpsons have not exactly had a great track record in the gaming arena, most of their pre-Playstation 2 era titles were, um, a unique experience to say the least. In the arcades though, Konami got the license, added it to the venerable Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brawler engine and had gold in their hands. This was one of the few good Simpsons games from this era. Brawlers and the Fox family just went together, it is a conundrum as to why more Simpsons fighting games weren’t released (no, Simpsons Wrestling doesn’t count). Now, fans have taken the Treehouse of Horrors theme and used a brawler engine (using Open BOR) and created an interesting brawler.
In Simpsons: Treehouse of Horrors players are tasked with defending the Earth from an alien invasion. The original arcade game featured a story with Maggie and Mr. Burns getting in a mixup. Treehouse of Horrors allows you to take to the streets with Homer, Bart or Krusty who each have special moves and unique attacks- though “teaming up” apparently didn’t make it to this Simpsons brawler. Shame really.
There are cameos of other Fox, and former Fox, shows such as Family Guy and Futurama to keep an eye out for.
Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors was created by Thatcher Productions and is available for free.
