Official Game Hack: Konami Gives Consent to Fan to Remake Metal Gear (MSX)

If you have not yet checked out issue #2 of our magazine (available here) then you are probably not going to get as much out of this piece of news. Konami has given permission to mod team Outer Heaven to remake the MSX version of Metal Gear, in HD.

Why is this so interesting? Because another team (Collectorvision) are working on doing an HD remake of Snatcher. That and Konami is not known for giving permission for these types of projects- they know about the Policenauts translation (featured in issue #2 of RGM) but won’t give an official statement on the patch. This is the first time that Konami, or just about any currently publishing company, has given fans permission to work on an intellectual property- usually, it is the other way around and work is done to stop fans.

There is one caveat here though, Outer Heaven are forbidden from selling, or making a profit of any kind off of, their remake of Metal Gear. Standard really, and the reason many fan projects are allowed to continue, if they are in any way.

Outer Heaven are looking for help with the remake though. If you are capable in level design, modeling, texture art, C++ programming or other facets of game creation please get in contact with Out Heaven at gmail.com ASAP.
