One of the earliest video games created was a racing game but video games are not all too often featured in car commercials. Mercedes Benz has done something really cool, at least in Japan. For the new Mercedes Benz GLA they use part of the original Super Mario Bros on Nintendo NES game prominently in their latest television ad. Oh, and Mario must have been hitting the gym lately as evidenced at the end of the commercial.
The start of the commercial shows a familiar scene, Super Mario Bros 1-1 as Mario jumps into the Mercedes Benz GLA. Off Mario goes on his usual adventure, that everyone knows, but this time in the GLA. The car jumps, hits blocks and drives up the level pyramid blocks and jumps over the flagpole. As the car comes to land, we are dropped into reality with the real Mercedes Benz GLA. Pay attention to the background of the reality portion- this is too cool.
The crossover goodness doesn’t stop at this commercial though. In Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Wii U, there will be downloadable content for the GLA. This DLC will be free to gamers this summer in Japan, no word on if this will be released in other territories. Following history, don’t hold your breath if you live outside of Japan.
We want to know from you, our readers, do you want to see more content like this or should we keep it strictly gaming?
