IndieGoGo is to Kickstarter as the Turbo Grafx-16 was to Genesis, the slightly less popular but still vehemently supported by it’s fans platform for crowdfunding. Sometimes there are some cool projects on IndieGoGo such as the Armiga from The Armiga Project. This is a Raspberry Pi powered platform that will dual boot a custom Amiga installation and Android 4.2.2
On one hand this is nothing different than you or I could create ourselves with a bit of hard work and ingenuity on our parts. On the other, this is an interesting idea, especially for those that are not electronically inclined, or just don’t want to bother with electronics, soldering, modding etc.
What will be in the “box” is a dual core ARM CPU (no information on speed), an SD card slot (your “hard drive”), multiple connectors for Ethernet and HDMI and USB and a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive- for those that want to play their original games. One concern I have is, the lack of information on the CPU and RAM it will have available and at a price of $139, it is probably not going to be anything too impressive.
If you want to check out the Armiga and possibly back it, check out their IndieGoGo project page.
