New Game: Carmageddon Reincarnation Coming to Steam Soon

Carmageddon is one of those titles that was deemed likely to end society as we know it. Other titles that parenting groups and various religious faculties have pointed this finger at include Mortal Kombat, the Grand Theft Auto series and Manhunt to name a few. The world didn’t end and some of these titles went onto stellar praise and even reverence as great games.

Carmageddon was over the top, pixelated, fun. It took the classic Death Race 2000 and made a reasonable facsimile of it in game form. Sure there was no David Carodine or Sylvester Stallone but it was still over the top fun. Carmageddon 2 eventually hit Playstation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color and of course PC where it was available in several versions depending on graphics card you had installed. The original was primarily a PC only hit.

Now, 17 years later, we are getting a second sequel, though the press material is ignoring the much more cartoony Carmageddon 2 that did get released.

“It’s brilliant to see our demonic baby rise screaming from the grave,” said Patrick Buckland, co-founder and CEO of Stainless Games and creative genius behind Carmageddon, “This time we could finally do the stuff that we wanted to do 17 years ago. More blood was the main thing. Rivers of livers – that’s what we wanted. Being publisher as well as developer means we get to be stupid. Properly, professionally stupid. And this game is stupider than Jupiter. I mean really silly – but in a good way. Nobody else makes games that make you cry with laughter – but we do. And did I mention the livers?”

Neil ‘Nobby’ Barnden, co-founder, Brand Director and “the other one” behind the original Carmageddon, added: “Blood and laughs. Amazing pile-ups. Awesome PowerUps. Insane… Insanity. The team is fantastic, the love we have for the title shines through, and even though the game is still pre-alpha it’s a bloody hoot to play!”

Recently, Carmageddon was resurrected on Android and iOS devices to great fanfare reception.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation will be available on Steam Early Access on March 27th.
