Bubblegum Crash Knight Sabers 2034 is a series that has long been misbegotten in the United States, there are several games that have not seen release here. The game that is the focus of this article is the digital comic that hit the PC-Engine (TurboGrafx-16 in North America). Gamers familiar with Snatcher on the Sega CD will have a good idea of what to expect here.
Digital comics never took off in the USA
Bubblegum Crash is based on the events that happened after Bubblegum Crisis (a popular anime) carried out in the digital comic format. Not sure what a digital comic is? Basically, there is a static image, or one with very little animation, in the top half of the screen. On the bottom is text, menu choices and the like that change depending on the scene you are currently viewing. Snatcher is the most popular North American release in this format, and sadly, one of the few.
Starting life as an anime
Fans of the Bubblegum Crisis/Crash anime series will want to play this. The original anime releases did arrive in limited quantities on our shores in English Dub and Subtitled formats (who remembers Suncoast Video?).
