Shining Empire, the online strategy title that Sega forced to change their name (originally Shining Force Online) has just failed their initial Kickstarter attempt less than 24 hours ago. According to the latest update, they will be returning to Kickstarter with a gameplay video, additional materials and more. Why wasn’t this done in the FIRST attempt?
The latest update to tell us that there will be another Kickstarter attempt, supposedly one better prepared, also gives a little ensight to the openness of the planned game. Particularly, a character attributes pic is shown. Normally this would be boring as all get out but looking closer, or reading the full update text, will reveal some interesting differences (and possibly more details as to why Sega was against the original title rather than working with the developers).
Characters can be gay or lesbian. I have no problem with this but corporate America is still struggling with this quite a bit (Pepsi is poking at this phobia in past ads). Anyhow, interestingly, this attribute card not only shows sexual orientation of the character but the name of their soulmate. Race is even mentioned via the comment “different colored people.” This suggests that gamers can really micro manage their towns and create their own idea of a utopia, if they can lure in the citizens that match what the player wants.
What is interesting here is that you will apparently be able to whoo characters to your town and they will bring wealth and other attributest that can improve/damage your town and its reputation with other in game characters.
More on Shining Empire as we get it.
