Donkey Kong can probably be credited with kicking off Nintendo as we know them now, or knew them as some might refer to the current state of gaming. Donkey Kong also set off several careers, most prominent of all being that of Mario, at the time simply known as Jump Man, and his quest to save his gal (who seems to be a magnet for the baddies of gaming). Eventually Donkey Kong got his shot, along with his whole family, but it was not for a good decade or so later. Fans have wanted more of Donkey Kong’s original style adventures for awhile and since Nintendo has not obliged this yearning since the Game Boy/Game Boy Color era, it is fans that are answering their own call.
Classic Kong, a fan take on the Donkey Kong franchise, is now available on cartridge for the Super Nintendo. The ROM file was released for free around August of last year but now, those wanting to play on original hardware, inserting the actual cartridge, can.
Our friends over at Piko Interactive are supplying the limited run of cartridges for a more than fair price tag (complete with box is still cheaper than many modern generation games).
