Aero The Acro-Bat Flies Onto Snes And Genesis – Today In Gaming History – October 12th 1993

2D side scrolling action adventure games, such as Aero the Acro-bat, used to be popular on consoles. However, over time they have been replaced by RPG and FPS games. 20 years ago today, Sunsoft released Aero the Acro-Bat in N. America. The title sold well and gamers wanted more, leading to a sequel a year later.

The originality of games is quickly dwindling. Aero takes much inspiration from recent video game mascots such as Bubsy and Sonic by including edginess in the character. The change in gameplay between this game and Mario are well noted in levels, colors, and difficulty.

Believe it or not, Aero the Acrobat has one of the most difficult games of all time. Sunsoft were really taking a gamble when they released this game. Seriously, if you can’t handle a gaming without help like invincibility mode, then I suggest you don’t play it at this difficulty. Sunsoft gambled too much when releasing this game.

Sunsoft were not just sitting back and laughing though. They did give gamers plenty of moves and options to maximize exploring the large levels, but for those who are looking for an extra push, they also included a built-in level editor. Only the best will see the ending with no help.

The legacy of the Acro-Bat lives on! With franchise releases on SNES, Genesis, GBA, Wii VC, the line of Aero games is no stranger to persistence.
